Balloon décor can be a beautiful addition to outdoor events, but outdoor environments naturally present challenges that can affect the appearance and longevity of balloons. Understanding these factors helps set realistic expectations and ensures a positive experience.
Natural Changes in Latex Balloons
Latex balloons are made from 100% biodegradable materials, which means they naturally begin to oxidize when exposed to air, sunlight, and the elements. This can cause a white or powdery appearance over time. This process is normal, unavoidable, and cannot be prevented.
Because of this natural reaction to outdoor conditions, no guarantees can be made for balloon décor placed outside. Festive Effects uses professional-grade products and takes great care to properly secure all installations; however, once the décor is in place and we leave the venue, environmental factors are beyond our control.
How Weather Impacts Balloons
Heat
High temperatures (above approximately 85°F) can cause balloons to expand and potentially pop. Darker colors and clear balloons are more sensitive to heat than lighter shades. Direct sunlight is especially harsh and accelerates wear.
Cold
Colder temperatures (below 32°F) may cause balloons to temporarily shrink or appear deflated. This generally does not impact displays unless temperatures are extreme.
Wind
Even light wind can place stress on balloon décor. Installations are secured using professional weights and sturdy stands, but wind may still cause movement or changes in appearance.
Rain & Moisture
Rain or humidity can weigh balloons down and dull their finish. In many cases, balloons regain their shape and appearance once dry, though prolonged exposure may shorten their lifespan.Balloon Types & Durability
