All latex balloons are treated to maximize float time. As time passes, the air escapes from the balloon very slowly when they are treated. 11" latex will last 18 to 24 hours without treatment and 2-5 days with treatment. After some time (depending on the environment) the balloons will start getting dull-looking or white powder look to them as they start to bio-degrade. This is a natural process for the balloon. Latex is 100% rubber from a rubber tree.

Hi-Float® balloon treatment is a solution that is a plastic material dissolved in water. It forms a coating inside latex balloons that greatly reduces helium or air loss. It is very safe. It is non-toxic, non-irritating, non-corrosive, non-flammable, and biodegradable. It is similar to the glue on the back of postage stamps.

Float times noted apply to indoor use.

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, balloons burst. This may be caused by static electricity brought about by changing weather conditions or extremely warm rooms. This can happen with or without HI-FLOAT. Balloons float for less time at high altitudes this is because the lower air pressure produces a less dense atmosphere.

Mylar balloons have a seam and are made of a metal (foil) coated plastic such as polyethylene or nylon. Unlike latex balloons, mylar balloons are not porous, so air does not leak out of them easily. Mylar balloons are also not biodegradable. and they are foil so they do conduct electricity. Do not let mylar balloons loose outside.

Mylar balloons are a foil type of balloon, It is not used for release because they could get caught up in electrical lines. They expand in the heat and deflate in a cooler environment, so when you receive your bouquet it may be delivered a little deflated until the balloon adjusts to the new environment it is in, then they will puff up.

From Qualatex Balloon Company -When handling balloons, always remember:

    • Never release balloons into the atmosphere.
    • Never inhale helium gas.
    • Always use a balloon pump to inflate your balloons.
    • Always secure helium-filled balloons with a weight.
    • When you're done enjoying your balloons, cut the ends and properly dispose.
    • Keep children safe when playing with balloons and dispose of any deflated or popped balloons right away.
